We are excited with the near-completion of Watson Place, an affordable housing complex located on Watson Street, Bellingen. This development will provide 23 one bedroom apartments for single women over 55 who are in need of housing, addressing a critical issue in the region.
Planning for Watson Place began in 2018, with RFBI donating the land and securing $10 million in funding— $5 million each from State and Federal governments. The project is the result of a collaborative effort involving RFBI, Bellingen Shire Council and the Housing Matters Action Group and has received strong support from the local community.
Frank Price, our CEO, highlighted the importance of the development: “Our goal was to support older single women at risk of homelessness and we’re thrilled to have achieved this outcome with the help of government and community partners.”
Local businesses have contributed housewarming gifts and essentials for the new residents, ensuring a warm welcome when the apartments open in December 2024. Watson Place represents a significant step toward addressing housing insecurity for vulnerable women in the Bellingen community.
